   ummm… they’re promiseing something, probably that they love the other one (the one who received it). i guess that what it means… thats what i always assumed that it meant

   A promise is not, as it sometimes may seem, a promise to marry later in the future.

   It represents your promise to stay pure until marriage.

   It means that R. wants to marry you someday. It’s like an engagement ring only a step below.
   Promise ring = I want to marry this person someday
   Engagement ring = I am going to marry this person
   Wedding ring = I am married to this person

    a promise to propose in the future, you would usually get one from someone that you would get married to, you just aren’t ready to get married right then.

    It’s like an engagement ring. When a a guy gives it to a girl, they are promising to stay with them. It’s sort of sweet, but I think it’s corny too.

    It means this guy promises that he will probably never marry you because you’re too young but he promises he will attempt to get into your pants at any given time because he is so “commited” since he gave you a promise ring. At least that is what a promise ring meant when I was in high school.
