  1. no walmart is not good for rings even the expensive ones break easily and fall apart i got one from there for 800.00 and the stone came out after a week and they wouldn’t do anything about it and wanted to charge me to get it fixed

  2. The thought behind the ring should be greater than the cost of the ring. If all you can afford is WalMart, then get it there. She will be happy to get a ring, regardless of where you bought it. Don’t be sneaky and put it in another stores box, that would be a lie and not a very good way to start a marriage. Give it to her out of the box and if she has the nerve to ask you where you got it, tell her it isn’t any of her business.

  3. The best thing to do is go on their website or in the store and ask whats the best diamond they sale. They are a discount store so they probably dont sell the greatest quality because that would be out of their target market and cost them more money just to get the diamonds. You probably can do decent but remember this is the woman you are trying to marry you dont have to get the top clarity but you do want it to look good for the love of your life. You spend what you can but dont be cheap about it. She is keeping it for the rest of her life.

  4. Keep in mind that it’s not the ring that matters but what it means to your future fiance. It’s important to get that ring insured if she’s going to have it for a long time. Therefore, she’ll have to keep going back to the place to get it inspected.

You may both be okay with this, but from a girl’s perspective it really does count.

  5. I absolutely wouldn’t buy from Wal-Mart because they use bottom of the barrel diamonds that only sparkle under the harsh lights in there. My friend gave his girlfriend a diamond ring he bought from Wal-Mart, and while it looked fine at first, eventually it was realllyyy obvious that every other girl had a way better ring than her. She’s so sweet so she didn’t say anything, but she was always hesitant to show it to people.

  6. no. a thousand times no.

  7. you can. my friend’s husband did, but just realize that your fiance may feel a little embarrassed about it. my friend needed to get her ring sized, and so her fiance told her where she got it. she was embarrassed, because they aren’t known for jewelry and don’t offer all of the services that a full jeweler does. when buying jewelry that will be worn for a long time and undergo wear and tear, having a jeweler who can repair and replace diamonds is very important.

the “named” jewelers like tiffany’s or bailey, banks, & biddle aren’t your only options. check out:

also, consider gemstones for a cheaper alternative. pick a gemstone that is important to the two of you. (the month you started dating, her birthstone, the month you intend to marry, etc.) or choose based on its meaning.

  8. My mom’s 2nd husband bought her engagement ring from a hock shop. She wasn’t thrilled, but accepted it. On their 20th anniversary, she took it to a reputable jeweler, and had the stone set in a new, beautiful setting. The jeweler said the diamond was high quality, and that it was worth way more than he had originally paid for it.
My point- it doesn’t necessarily matter where you get the ring, just make sure its a good quality stone and setting.

  9. Walmart??!! Are you nuts or just too cheap to care? Is that what you think of this girl? Poor thing to have a fiance who thinks so very little of her. Bet her answer is NO once she sees the little grain of sand you offer her.

  10. We got my wedding ring at Walmart and its gorgous!

  11. For an everyday ring I would say go for it as long as you do your homework on the four C’s. Buying ignorant is a recipie for getting ripped off regardless of who you go to.

For an engagement ring it is worth it to go with a regular jewler even if it’s a chain like Helzberg or Zales. Walmart does not have lifetime warranties on their diamonds like those stores do.

You may pay a small amount more (we actually paid much less since they are constantly running those huge 70% off sales around holidays) by going to these places but if a stone ever falls out, the ring breaks, she needs resizing (very common) or anything like that it will be covered free of charge saving tons in the long run.

  12. My fiance bought my ring at wal-mart. Not because of the price, but because I loved the design and we live in a very small town with only one other jewlery store. I have been wearing it since february and it has been great in quality. The diamond itin’t the biggest, but I’m not that kind of girl. So I suppose it all depends on the girl you wish to present it to. If she cares a lot about material things and name brands, you might not want to buy it there. If she cares about your love and commintment then any ring should do.

Also, my father made my mom her first engagement ring. He saudered a stone to it and everything. Not the prettiest thing, but very, very romantic and sweet.
    Best of luck!

  13. The ring is the best part!! DEFINITELY get it at a MUCH BETTER store than WALMART!!??

  14. No, keep saving……it is NOT really the THOUGHT that counts but the goods and I’m here to stand up and say it ain’t so……

Buy the diamond that you can afford no matter the size at a reputable jeweler…….you can always trade up….on anniversary’s … birthdays….etc…..

if you have to buy a smaller diamond but excellent quality, that is way better than a bigger Walmart diamond..
I am prepared for the thumbs down, but I can take it :)

  15. I am usually the LAST person to care about where something came from but Wal-Mart? Are you insane? Or is this in some backwater white trash town? Sorry to be blunt but damn, invest a little and buy a more appropriate ring from somewhere far better and with higher quality.

Consider Ben Bridge (mine was from there), Zales (not highly recommended but still decent), Whitehall, Lundstrom, Kays (also not highly recommended but still decent), or Gordon’s.

If you’re wanting to marry this woman, then buy a solid quality ring from a place far nicer than Wal-Mart. If I, as the woman, ever found my ring came from Wal-Mart I’d run the other way and consider the guy a complete cheap-ass. A ring is a symbol of love and committment, not some crackerjack prize.

  16. I agree with you, in principle … but some things in life should be expensive and an egagement ring is one of those things. By the best one you can afford, and buy it from a reputable jewler. And remember, quality over quantity. A 1 carat peice of doo-doo is not as nice as a .85 quality stone. Do the right thing. Set it in white gold or platinum. Yellow gold is a bit dated and all the girls love the look of platinum. Princess cut is very nice (square) but it usually requires a larger stone. Talk to a Jewler, they’ll help you out …. more than Brandine can behind the jewlery counter at Wal-Mart.

  17. why dont you try ultradiamonds.com..beautiful rings..

  18. My husband bought my wedding ring at Wal-mart and I love it. I also get lots of compliments on it too. So if you want to get it at Wal-mart go for it.

  19. I got my engagement ring from Wal-mart! I couldn’t care less where he got it from or how much he spent on it! I saw it once while we were there, and he got it. He didn’t like that he got it, he’d have rather spent more for a better quality diamond. I love my ring, I get compliments all the time. I haven’t had any problems with it. It doesn’t matter how much you spend. (or at least it shouldn’t) an expensive ring does not equal more love. love is from the heart, not the wallet!!

Edit: So are the thumbs down meaning money is more important then love?

  20. Try Target. My best friend has a friend who used to work at a nice jewelry store, and later worked at Target. She says they have the same quailty diamonds.

  21. It’s not where you buy it from but the quality. Make sure the diamond has good color and clarity and has a GIA or EGL certification. If it doesn’t - no matter how cheap you are wasting your money. Go to bluenile.com and do your homework. Then try to get the best diamond for the price. There is the old adage - you get what you pay for. Try a jewelry chain or even a major department store, but I’d avoid walmart based on the quality of the craftsmanship you’ll get.

  22. Depends what you consider fairly good.

If you look at walmart online you can get a 1/2 carat ring in 14k gold for $698.

The color is I or J, which is low end near colorless.
The clarity is I2, which means imperfections to the naked eye.
The say nothing of the quality of the cut at all, which is important also, but based on what I see I doubt it would be good.
Also IGI certificate is not as highly regarded as a GIA certificate.

My conclusion would be that this is a poor quality diamond, not good. My opinion is you want minimum H color, and SI2 clarity diamond, with a very good cut. Cut grade is not always included but a well cut diamonds has more fire. Learn about clarity, color and cut. There are plenty of diamond tutorials online.

  23. Yes!

I used to manage jewelry stores, and almost had my fiance buy my wedding ring there that had diamonds, but instead chose a plain white gold band to go along with my engagement ring he bought in a pawn shop-I helped select it.

Wal-mart has some really pretty rings, just do your research on diamonds. Also, if you can do this, buy the ring and take it home and look at it under better light than what they have in the store-this way, you can really check out the color of the diamond. What I did was put 2 rings on my credit card, and the return was easy for us.

Yes, Wal-mart has good rings—do not be afraid to choose one from there, just do research on good diamonds first.
