What do the letters inside my diamond ring mean?

diamond ring
Meggie asked:

Hello all.

My grandmother gave me a diamond (maybe?) ring recently. It must have been hers at one point, and it wasn’t new from a store.

Inside the band it says “18 KT. H.G.E.” then a symbol that’s a V overlapping a figure shaped like this: <>

It’s silver looking, so I’m assuming it’s 18 karat white gold. But what do the other letters and symbol mean?

Thanks!

  1. H.G.E is probably where it is from.
Or she had it engraved, is it her initials?

  2. No idea I’d suggest going to a jeweler, they might know.

  3. The letters are to symbolize the comapanys barcode and seiral code on it the diamond figure is to rep. the diamonds rating in the company

  4. The V and the figure do mean it’s white gold. As for the rest, dunno!

  5. 18 karat - H.G.E. *JEWLERY TRADEMARK FOR UNCAS MFG., PROVIDENCE RI SINCE 1965 - the symbol is a goldsmith signature.
