  1. Any precious stone works fine, like a sapphire, ruby, garnet, etc. Maybe use her birthstone? My mother in law’s ring is a sapphire, and it’s beautiful. A lot of people I know also forgo the engagement ring and just get a wedding band.

  2. This jewelry is completely man made and beautiful. They look like real diamonds too.

  3. Princess Diana’s engagement ring was a sapphire surrounded by diamonds. I know an actress whose engagement ring is a beautiful emerald. And a friend’s ring was rubies & diamonds in a yellow gold filigree setting.

But if you are getting a precious genstone, do not go to a run-of-the-mill jeweler. Only go to Harry Winston, Graff, or other top-of-the-line jeweler. Make sure it has a GIA certificate. An engagement ring is an investment, so don’t spend a fortune on junk at the mall jewelry chain store.

  4. You are thoughtful to think of this. Unfortunately, no matter what a woman says in my opinion wants a diamond. She may be kind to you, or feel bad for you, but the truth is she wants a diamond…BUT you can afford one..if you seek an alternative and are ok with a diamond that is real from earth you can get one cheap. Its cleaned with a laser to make it affordable but its a diamond. And thats what she wants. If you cant afford a clarity enhanced diamond that can be the best alternative. Dont take this wrong but you may not want to get married for a few years until things straghten out. Anyone who sees anything other than a diamond on her finger will never believe she is married. My husband was a good boy and got me a 2ct diamond it is enhanced but I dont care its real and thats all that matters.
