If money isn’t really an issue, how many carats should my ring have? I want something big, but not obnoxious.

  1. If its big its gonna be obnoxious. Save the money for something much more useful.

  2. 2-3 carats.. is good enough.

  3. I think a 1 1/2 to 2 carat middle stone with 1 carat stones on both sides

  4. If money is of no concern, take a look at a few simple solitaires and decide what you think looks nice. In my opinion, diamonds are like nice boobs, the bigger the better…and i dont have either ;)

  5. My mom always told me that an engagement ring should cost two months pay. And I agree with that. The size of the diamond shouldn’t matter, but what it sstands for.

  6. i dont think that matters at all, if yo want something big, that is your prference , but i got a big diamond and wound up hating the guy that gave it to me .

  7. It really doesn’t matter about carats, you get something you like, that is pretty you and you think is pretty to others.

  8. You sound more concerned about the ring than you do about the marriage. YOu can have a big diamond that is low in carats, and you can have a tiny ring that has a large carat value. Number of carats does not, however, have any bearing on how much he loves you or how successful your marriage will be. Focus on the person, not the jewellery.

  9. i think you dont really care about relally being engaged …. if you did you would be more concerned about the meaning behind the ring, that he wants to spend the rest of his life with you, and that this is his promise of forever with you than the diamond size … listen to how materlistic you sound … you sound just like paris hilton

  10. 1 carat not obnoxious placed in a nice setting

  11. How about this, look at the stones first, decide on the cut and from there try on a few sizes. It isn’t about having a giant diamond, but the love that your ring represents. Find something that is a nice fit for your finger…….people have different definitions of big.

  12. My engagement ring center stone is a 1/3 carat, which I guess isn’t that big but I think it looks big! It’s a marquise cut, and it’s set much higher than the band, which I think makes the stone look bigger. My personal opinon is anything over 1 carat looks big and obnoxious. What we did is he set a limit of much he wanted to spend on the rings and then he looked at the rings that were my style under that. So just remember that the size of the diamond is only part of the ring, make sure you get the right cut and style of band to your tastes

  13. Someone I know recently received a ring with a 3 ct. center stone with a 1 ct side stone on each side.

It is definitely borderline obnoxious, especially since she’s rather thin.

I think a 2ct center stone is large enough, but not obnoxious.

  14. then get her a caret and a half that is a good size not to big not to small

  15. I think the quality is more important then the size. Mine is 1 and i think it is perfect for me. I think over 2 would be too big for me.

  16. Carat isn’t the issue so much as cut clarity and color. I’ve seen 3 carat rings that were ugly because they weren’t clear nor were they colorless. Just big, ugly brown colored rocks on fingers. Then I’ve also seen 1/2 ct. solitaires that cost the exact same as the larger brown ones but because of the color, cut, and clarity were even more gorgeous.

Trust me, nobody wants to see a large brown diamond on your finger just for the sake of you saying you’ve got a 3 ct. Best go with one that is all around great.

A nice 1 1/3 ct. with no color, very high clarity and an ideal cut will cost you approximately $5,600 just for the diamond, not including the setting. Shoot for that, not a larger one if you want quality

  17. I think 3 carats is big enough it’s not flashy and not to small my engagement ring has 3 carats surrounded by rinestones, i love it it is so beautiful and it came from my fiancee’s heart not just his bank account. And it has specail engraving in it just for me.

  18. Anything more than 2 or so looks too big and fake in a way … you could always get something closer to 1 and then get an upgrade as a 5th or 10th anniversary present.

  19. it all depends on you.
i have really petite hands, so any ring with a stone larger than 1/2 carat looks huge…so we’re just going to go for an awesome small stone.

but, that said, anything more than 2 carats looks obnoxious on anyone!

  20. 3 carat center stone

  21. Depends on your hand, if you have slender fingers you may wish to go with less. Do you want a solitaire diamond setting, or an elaborate setting with side stones ? If you want a large stone than I would say go for a 6 prong tiffany style setting.

Remember that Cut, Color and Clarity are other important factors. You can get a 1 carat ring that is more expensive than a 3 carat ring.

I wouldn’t get more than a 3 carat center stone. Make sure the color is equal or better than any other diamond you wear. Clarity of VS1 or better should insure than none of the inclusions are visible to the naked eye. A 10x loupe will be needed. And if you go for a round brilliant, make sure it is an ideal cut, maybe even hearts and arrows if you want something a little different.

  22. If money was no object, 2 carats is enough for anyone. Otherwise you do look obnoxious. Check out
