What is the best and most popular diamond engagement ring?
FRIDA asked:
There are so many styles of engagement rings…i don’t like the one I have….i feel its missing something.
What’s consider more beautiful…platinum, yellow or white gold? Solitaire round, princess cut, or emerald?

6. September 2008 at 9:46 pm :

7. September 2008 at 11:50 pm :
in this day and age it would have to be the stunning round solitaire in a platinum/white gold setting with a plain band…
8. September 2008 at 8:15 am :
platinum princess cut and the most expensive 1 he can afford
8. September 2008 at 6:25 pm :
I like white gold or platinum.
And mine is princess cut but I think I read that over the years the round (brilliant cut) is the most popular.

No offense intended, but the ring you get is secondary to the sentiment behind the ring. I know some women that would be just as happy with a cigar band if they knew they could be with the man they loved.

princess cut is more unique or rather, classic.
white gold is more popular, unless you thinking of selling it later then yellow would be a choice.
personally prefer white gold, princess cut for a lady

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so don’t just get one because everyone else thinks it’s nice, you gotta love it yourself.
Mine is an oval tanzanite with two small round diamonds next to it on a yellow gold band. My husband chose it and I loved it from the first time I saw it. Choose something that you like, after all, you are the one that’s got to wear it!

Well Tiffany’s are the best. My husband doesn’t have that kind of money. It’s the thought behind it that matters.
16. September 2008 at 4:14 pm :
The one that the both of you agree upon is the best for you as a couple. Fits your budget and you both like the way it looks, and has enough dazzle to fit your social crowd.
Gold, platinum, titanium is what you guys prefer not what anyone else thinks.

The sol caritas solitaire

You don’t like the one you have? yikes- did he give it to you? oh well I love mine it is white gold and in a custom star shape with a center brilliant cut stone and little ones around- My favorite cut.

You really shouldn’t care too much about the ring. Its the gesture and meanig behind the ring that should matter. I didn’t even have a ring when I was proposed to, the ring didn’t matter. What mattered was that the man I love was asking me to share my life with him.
Good luck in your search.

I’m not sure but i do know that if my boyfriend even gave me a toy ring i’d be thrilled. its the sentiment that counts

Most popular, and a fad right now, is white gold with a princess cut solitaire.
However, those are both things I personally don’t like! The solitaire is okay, but mine has shoulder stones, and is of yellow gold, and is a brilliant round.
Since you already have a ring, please be happy with it! It was given from the heart, and you should accept it as such…

The best engagement ring is the one chosen and given with love by the man you adore. What does it look like? Who cares. Most popular these days would be princess cut with white gold band.
Personally I am not a fan of princess cut. I prefer a round brilliant cut. I dont like honking big stones either. They are fascinating to look at but I wouldnt wear one.
Mine is brilliant cut (round) bezel set (rub over) with 4 diamonds set in each shoulder. It is 18 kt white gold.
I am not too keen on yellow gold, altho yellow is more popular here in Australia.
You should learn to love and appreciate the one you have.

The best ring is one that your man put thought behind and picked out because he thought that you would like it. If you truly love your man the ring shouldn’t matter, should it? What exactly do you mean it’s missing something?
But if you must have a new one
If you google ‘What is the most popular diamond engagement ring’ nearly every single site has a different answer.
Antique rings. art deco rings, simple solitaire…
I say be happy with the one you have and bring up to him one day your dream ring…and set up with him that on your 5 or 10 year anniversary (if you make it that far) he buys your dream one for your gift.

I like princess cut, which is what my ring is. I told my guy a couple of times that it was the style I liked (since we started talking about getting married), but honestly I would have been happy with anything, I was just thrilled about the step we were taking together! I do agree that you should be happy with your ring, but when you say something is missing, it makes me think that you should look at all you have in your relationship instead of what is missing in your ring, I am sure it is really great

mine is a 0.6 princess cut solitaire in yellow gold.
it is more important that he get the best cut and colorless diamond possible as to the size of it…..trust me.

I personally prefer white gold and emerald cut stones. My engagement ring is three stone emerald cut diamonds in white gold with 6 (three on each side) princess cut diamonds channel set into the band. My wedding band has channel set princess cuts across the top and it too is white gold. I guess it is just a matter of what you like and what he can afford.
For our second anniversary he gave me an emerald cut Ceylon sapphire in white gold… which is surrounded by baguette cut diamonds and 4 little round diamonds on the corners.

I’ve got a yellow gold band with a cathedral setting, prongs that have tiny heart shapes where they hold the diamond, and my diamond is round, solitaire. I picked everything out, its exactly what i wanted,

I personally think that solitaires are boring, they have no flair.
Princess cuts are def. the “in” thing right now but personally you get more bang for your buck with other shape like a pear or an oval that can look almost twice as big as a princess cut which is the smallest looking stone by weight, most people don’t realize that a carat is a weight not a physical dimension.
Check out this site to compare different physical dimensions:
Emerald cuts are pretty but you better have the highest quality stone, Vs1 or better becuase it has so few facets that any flaws are very visible.
White gold or platinum is the more popular metal color right now, but it is still a more personal choice. I love pink gold with white gold or platinum.
Check out sites like whiteflash.com or worldjewels.com to see a good variety of styles, and good prices.

as far as jewellery goes beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. for example my wedding ’set’ is one ring, a wide band and each time we had a child my husband took my band into the jewellers and had the child’s birthstone set into the gold - a flush mount i think its called. anyway my wedding band has all four children’s birthstones as well as mine and my husbands and while others would consider it quite plain or ordinary it is beautiful to me.
our one daughter has a solitaire that she loves, another has a square cut sapphire that she adores, and the other has a plain wide yellow gold wedding band and no engagement ring. our son’s wife has a lovely cluster with a emerald as a center stone and small diamonds surrounding it.
they all are thrilled with their rings~and think their own ring is the prettiest of all our ringsl
a friend of mine has a huge solitaire with a wedding band filled with diamonds and then an anniversary ring filled with diamonds. i always tease her and say if she ever slapped anyone’s face she’d cut them to shreds with all the rocks on her finger. i think its horrid but she absolutely loves it! so sweetie as you can tell by all the answers here it is entirely personal taste and thats what should dictate what ring you have. it shouldn’t be purchased because its the biggest, the most popular style, or the most expensive, it should be chosen because it touched your heart. good luck with your decision!
