How much is reasonable to ask for a.5 carat diamond ring?
Jess asked:
I have a .5 carat (appx) emerald cut, yellow gold solitare diamond engagement ring I want to sell, but am not sure what is reasonable to ask for it. It has been worn, but is not damaged.
It was purchased at Helzberg Diamonds, and I believe it was about $1500 originally.

Depends on the color and clarity. I can’t imagine at top notch it would fetch over $1500.

Even if it hasn’t been worn, it’s still a used ring. You should probably ask no more than $500 for it. What you can do, though, is go get it appraised at the jewelers’, and they give you a certificate stating how much it’s worth. Then you can base your asking price on that, and when a potential customer tries to bargain with you, just whip out the certificate and show them why you won’t go any lower.

that depends or the 4C’s, color clarity ,cut. & carat weight i would say $500 and up.

The value of any diamond is dependent on four things:
1] cut [ shape]
2] clarity [ clear ]
3] color [ shade, and how dark the shade ]
4] carat [ size ]
Also, the setting can add or detract value.
Get it appraised. [ what did you pay for it? ]

Get it appraised and tell them not to inflate it. Take it back where you bought it and get the color and clarity information, it will help.
If you bought it a while ago it could be worth more.
Search on for a similar diamond and realize you may get just 1/2.
