  1. Traditionally, engagement rings are diamonds only. Whereas, promise rings normally have gemstones or birthstones. In addition, the carat weight of the stones are normally small in a promise ring.

Of course, this is all subjective. One websites cites the average cost of an engagement ring being about $3,500. That’s a lot less than the cost of a promise ring, which is usually only in the low to mid $100s.

    Here’s the website:

I’m not sure if that number is correct, it seems a bit high. Last time I checked, it said the average cost of an engagment ring was $2,500.

But, anyway, that’s still high compared to the cost of a promise ring.

  2. a ring is a ring. You can purpose to someone with anything it doesnt even have to be a ring. I knew somone that used a necklace. She will probably not know the differece but prmise rings are generally smaller than a “engagement ring” labeled at the store

sounds perfect if that is what you can afford and want to do. To her it will be priceless regardless of the price tag

  3. Your engagement ring should only matter to YOU. I have heard that promise rings are generally about a 1/4 carat or less, and $400 or less. I don’t know how true it is. Honestly though, it is the ides behind the ring that matters an nothing else.

  4. One costs like 50 bucks at the wal-marts and you give it to your hs gf, the other costs quite a bit more and are reserved for serious relationships that go beyond dry humping in your parents basement.

  5. !there shouldn’t be any difference in the look wise really. as promise rings come first, they are usually sold cheaper and have less designs or decorations on them. in other words, they are more simpler looking, then the engagement rings!

rings of any kind and from any sections, can be used for any purpose. it’s the words from heart that is said along with the given ring, is how a ring is considered into a special relation, and that is what it’s really counted for!!!

  6. my promise ring (when we decided to be “exclusive”) was a blue topaz silver ring & then he gave me a white gold ring w/a pearl & my engagement ring is white gold w/a princess cut diamond.

  7. Well, you’ve pretty much noted the main difference - the price. They can look any which way but generally the diamonds are not very large; promise rings are generally worn by younger girls (women) when the young man isn’t able to afford a more substantial ring.

  8. Probably not. Mine was an engagement ring, it was a 1/4 diamond 10k gold. And most other ‘promise rings’ I’ve seen are similar to mine or were ‘eternity rings’ which have the diamonds going all the way around it, or I’ve seen one plain gold band.

If you like it who cares what anyone else thinks!

    Good Luck and Congratulations
