What finger does a promise ring typically go on?

promise ring
soldier96b asked:

I want to give my girlfriend a promise ring during/after her prom and would hate to mess up by putting it on the wrong finger. So does it go on the “wedding” finger like an engagement ring or a differnt finger. Also how do I go about finding her ring size? I don’t want to ask her because then she will get the hint. So how do i find out?

  1. the ring finger-left hand

  2. the same finger the wedding ring goes on

  3. I’m sorry, but “promise rings” seem rather inappropriate, in my opinion.

I do believe, however, in engagement and wedding rings for women, only, and not for men.

    As far as I’m concerned:

    1) Anything prior to engagement means that the girl is still available.

    2) A man who wears an engagement or wedding ring is clueless and is a sissy.

  4. middle finger take her to a jewelry store and let her try on rings for fun.

  5. Generally it goes on the “wedding” ring finger. You might ask to look at a ring she is wearing. Ask her help in picking out a “mother’s ring for your mother. (sneaky LOL) Or ask one of her girlfriends that you trust for help.

  6. well if this ring is not for an engagement then put it on any of the fingers on the right hand so that she can know that this does not mean you are trying to marry her

  7. When my (now) husband gave me mine in high school, I wore it on my wedding ring finger. I switched it over to my right hand after we got married, and still wear it.

As for finding her ring size, maybe there’s a ring that she sometimes wears, that you could “borrow” when she’s not looking, to find out the size. Or, maybe her mom or friend (that could keep a secret!) would know.

  8. Try it out on your pinky, and if its too big or small, get it sized after she gets it. The surprise is worth more, so worry about the other stuff later. Oh yeah, it goes on the left ring hand…

  9. the left ring finger

  10. Easiest way to find out stuff like that that you don’t technically know about, (ring sizes) is to go through her parents, or a friend of hers that would know or has the same size. It does go on the ring finger though.

    Good luck bro ; )

  11. Yes on the wedding finger, it does not mean you are married, just promised to each other. Get one of her friends to find out her ring size for you girls talk about jewelry and so it won’t seem out of the ordinary.

  12. i think right hand ring finger, cause ur not asking her to marry you and ur not at the chapel marrying her. try to figure it out when u hold hands, maybe if its close to the size of urs u could go to where ever and get it a few sizes smaller or something.

  13. She’s a very lucky woman to have you consider such a thing. People may well tell you the idea is outdated, but in my opinion, it’s one of the most romantic things you could do for her. Perhaps if you feel comfortable discussing it with her parents, ask them if they have any ideas about her ring size. If you do not, is there a ring you might be able to borrow to measure up against?
Best wishes to you and hope it all works out.

  14. The one you won’t mind cutting-off later.

  15. It goes on the ring finger of her left hand. Later she can move it to her right hand to make room for an engagement ring.

Ask her Mom to sneak one of her rings that fits. Then you can take it to the jewelry store and they will be able to get her size from it. Her Mom may even know her ring size, saving you the trouble.

    Good luck!
