nancy asked:

my bf just given me an engagement solitaire diamond ring and i love it so much. i wear it all the time even when i sleep and sometimes i hit the ring on the wall. i noticed that the tip of 2 prongs doesnt touch to the diamond now. it is a 4 prong setting.
i tried to move it but its not moving. is it possible that the diamond is loose?

  1. I don’t know but take it to the jeweller or where you got it as soon as you can. Do it quick, this is important! The ring should have a guarantee so get it checked ASAP by a professional.

  2. Take it to a jeweler. It wont hurt.
I know so many people who haven’t done anything about it and on the next day have looked down and don’t have a diamond anymore.

  3. take it to a jewelry store and usually they will inspect it for free. I know Helzberg does. Any jewelry store (a chain) will clean it for free.

It’s fine to wear it whenever you want, but I’d take if off when you shower. Because I was told that the soap scum makes a ring really dirty, really fast.

Congrats and welcome to the most frazzling few months of your life, up until your wedding. haha, but it’s so much fun!

  4. Could be, I would take it to the jeweler it was purchased from and have him look at it and tighten it if nessessary before you lose the stone. That shouldn’t have happened so soon after you got it. Years of wear can make a prong loose but not this quickly. I always wore mine too even cleaning house and working in the garden. Never took it off and never had the problem you are having.

  5. You need to go to the jeweler. Get it done as soon as possible otherwise you may end up loosing your diamond.

  6. take it to the place that he purchased the ring, and they will def be able to help you especially if it was fairly recently

  7. Yes, you need to get your prongs checked immediately or it’s very likely you may lose your stone. Go to the place where he bought it, which should provide this service for free, or find a jewelry store with an on-site jeweler so you don’t have to leave your ring to be fixed (call ahead!)

Also please make sure that your ring is insured. You will first need to have it appraised by a certified diamond grader (preferable NOT at the store where he bought it) and then contact your insurance company to add the ring to your homeowner’s or renter’s policy.

    Best wishes.
